Route 152 is in the Top Five All Time Best Roads Ever. Twisty and picturesque, with nicely banked curves that are smooth and clean, you can’t ask for more from a road. Even though this scenic detour added almost 170 miles to the day, it was all worth it!
You know you’re in New Mexico when a farmer pulls up on his one horsepower vehicle, with a billy goat in tow!
White Sands National Monument, comfortably nestled at the end of the White Sands Missile Range. Too bad there’s no missile testing on Sundays.
Five Hundred Forty Miles can’t all be great. This is one of the boring miles.
‘American Owned’ Driftwood Motel – at $49, a somewhat comfortable home for the evening.
And now, a few hours of the dreamless before we go and do it all over again. Tomorrow – Carlsbad Caverns, then a five hundred mile slog to San Antonio.
