Once you center the first star in the telescope, it then slews to the next star, and you repeat the procedure. Then you can punch in on the remote whatever you want to look at. I centered it on something in the sky twice, so let’s go stargazing!

OK, so… what else can I see? I put in “Tonight’s Best” which is a guided tour of the brightest objects in the sky based on the time and location. Number 1? Mars.

One more try. The Pleiades. I know where it is, I can see it with my naked eye. Slew slew slew… Stop. Close. Not TOO close… but once I nudged and fudged the telescope around a bit, voila! I could see it! The Pleiades looks like a smeared blur in the sky, through a telescope it looks like a REALLY really little dipper. Blows me away that the light I am seeing left those stars FOUR HUNDRED YEARS ago… For all we know, they might not even be there anymore.

Well, maybe now the telescope is centered correctly? I’ll try one more thing before frostbite starts claiming toes. The Sombrero Galaxy. I have seen pictures of it before, and it looks fascinating to me. It is listed on the remote controller… but.. wait a minute, it also rises at 3:18 AM. That’s… Weird. I’m not going to be outside at 3:18 for any reason.

Well, that’s enough of that for now. Stargazing, much like motorcycling, seems to be a hobby best suited for the summer. Guess I will have to take up ice skating, since the lake is completely frozen. Anyway, the WWE’s Tribute to the Troops is almost on, and yes, I am going to watch.

All the pictures of cool things in space were found on the web. Guess I could’ve saved myself some money and frozen appendages and just surfed the Hubble website, but what fun would THAT be?
